Chinese Medicine and PCOS

The PCOS or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is conditions when the ovary of a woman doesn’t make the hormones it needs for any eggs to fully mature. In a woman affected by PCOS follicles may grown and build up fluid but not one follicle becomes large enough, instead some remain as cysts, this prevents eggs from maturing and ovulation does not occur. These ovarian changes give PCOS its name (“poly” = many, “cystic” = cysts). PCOS is believed to be the most common hormonal abnormality in women of reproductive age and affects approximately 1 in 10 women.
