Massage
Massage is one of the oldest healing disciplines. It can help boost immunity, reduce stress, stimulate detoxification and improve adrenal function.
Our massage therapists perform several types of therapeutic massage:
Remedial Massage is a therapeutic massage that helps restore health to injured muscles and tissues, including tendons and ligaments. Your massage therapist may use one or a number of different types of massage to relieve your symptoms, including deep tissue or sports massage. Remedial massage is often used to treat sports injuries and posture-related injuries including muscular tightness, sprains, stiffness, lactic acid build-up, back pain and headaches. The style of massage is quick and vigorous with deep penetrating stroke work, aimed at restoring the soft tissue of the body to its optimal state. It may be combined with other forms of therapy including physiotherapy and exercises like tai chi and oi gong.
Remedial Facial Massage is a great way to relieve sinus blockage and promote circulation to the face and assist in the speedy removal of toxins. This massage uses strokes to drain the lymphatic system and acupressure points that correspond to blocked areas focusing on the scalp, face, neck and shoulder. Usually the benefits are felt immediately after the massage, with a feeling of lightness and natural breathing.
Chinese Remedial Massage (Tui Na) is a TCM practice that has been used to treat a variety of ailments for more than 2000 years. It involves brushing, kneading, pressing and rubbing the areas between each of the joints, known as the eight gates, to open the body’s qi and get the energy moving in both the meridians and the muscles. Instead of providing more general treatment for the body, Tui Na focuses on treating a specific problem. The practitioner uses massage and acupressure to treat a range of conditions including back pain and chronic stress-related disorders of the digestive, respiratory, and reproductive systems.
Shiatsu is a traditional Japanese healing therapy involving the application of body weight through the fingers, forearms and feet, to apply pressure to special points on the body. This is combined with joint rotations, joint manipulation and stretches to treat the patient holistically. Shiatsu therapy can promote the prevention and recovery of illness by stimulating the immune system and the body’s natural healing power. Common conditions that are alleviated with the use of shiatsu include back pain, headaches, neck stiffness, joint pain, reduced mobility, digestive problems, depression and stress.
Fertility Massage helps to prepare the body for pregnancy, whether you are having IVF treatment or trying to improve your health before conception. The technique improves circulation and increases blood flow to the reproductive organs. It also helps stimulate the body’s natural hormones, improving your chances of conception. Fertility massage aids relaxation and helps the body deal with stress, a leading cause of infertility. It can also help treat a number of gynaecological issues that contribute to infertility such as irregular menstruation, amenorrhea and endometriosis. Fertility massage can be combined with other forms of TCM for optimum results.
Hot Stone Massage is a full body relaxation massage where warm stones are placed on the body and used to massage the muscles. The stones are smooth river stones that retain heat and placing of the stones on different points in the body can rebalance the energy flow. This is a deeply calming and nurturing treatment recommended for people who need grounding. The pressure can be either light or deep as what is comfortable.
Ear Candling and Head Massage starts with a neck, shoulder, face and scalp massage to gently stimulate the lymphatic system and unblock energy flow to the sinus. Ear candles are placed in the ears to gently draw out the earwax, allowing you to relax. This treatment is useful for people who suffer from sinus congestion, ear wax build up after a flu or cold, people who work around dust and pollutants, some types of headaches or just to relax and benefit from ear candling effects.
Cupping While massages use positive pressure to release the muscles, cupping uses suction to draw up toxins from of the muscles and provides relief for tight congested areas. Historically, cupping has been used throughout Asia as a healing tool for the body during a heat type of illness. As well as benefiting muscles, cupping is commonly used to treat flu and aid in detoxifying the body.
Thai Foot Reflexology The feet contain reflex points, which connect to the internal organs and other parts of the body. This treatment focuses entirely on the feet and the legs following the sen lines used in Thai massage. It includes an aromatic foot balm, acupressure, effleurage, stretching and the use of a wooden stick. It has the therapeutic benefits of invigorating local circulation and dissolving muscle tension as well as relaxing the mind (Paraffin treatment can also be included).
Paraffin Wax Treatment has been used as a healing treatment for hundreds of years. It is applied as a warm wax and left to dry, harden and peeled away. The healing benefits include improvement to the circulation, soothing joints and moisturising very dry skin. It is especially beneficial for arthritis, stiff joints and wound healing.
Conditions treated by massage include: frozen shoulder, back pain, sciatica, wry neck, sore knees, arthritis, chronic pain, headaches, migrants, nerve compression, repetitive strain injury (RSI), stress and anxiety, jaw pain (TMJ), slow digestion, post stroke recovery.
