What is Multiple Sclerosis??

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease which affects the nerves of the central nervous system. The brain and spinal cord of one’s body gets worsen. Multiple Sclerosis is a condition wherein Myelin that gives a protective covering for nerves, vanishes. Myelin improves the transmission of impulses along the nerves and is important for maintaining the strength of the nerves. Vanishing of Myelin therefore affects the travel of the electrical impulses along the nerves and this motion becomes slow. To make things worse, the nerves themselves get damaged. The more and more nerves get affected; concerned person experiences problems related to the functions that are controlled by the nervous system which include vision, speech, writing and walking and also memory power.

Causes of Multiple Sclerosis

  • The actual cause of Multiple Sclerosis is not clearly known, but it has been extensively accepted that genetic, immunological, and environmental factors play a significant role.
  • Some research analysts believe that an alien agent, maybe a virus, alters the immunity system so that the production of myelin vanishes.
  • But a definite reason and a solution to it is still not been found
  • Women are twice as likely as men to be affected by Multiple Sclerosis

Types of Multiple Sclerosis

There are different reasons for developing Multiple Sclerosis. The severity of an attack may range from mild to harsh ones.

  • The first kind of attack is referred to as an exacerbation of multiple sclerosis. It normally lasts for more than 24 hours and more than a few weeks.
  • More than three fourths of individuals are prone to get Relapsing-Remitting (RR) Multiple Sclerosis, which is the most common type. In this kind, they experience a sequence of attacks for a prolonged period of time and then it does not occur for the next few days or weeks…
  • Very less people get into this type of complication. It’s called Primary-Progressive (PP) Multiple Sclerosis. In this kind, there is a constant, slow and steady decline in a person’s physical abilities.
